The Borova Hora Arboretum (ABH) provides a wide range of opportunities especially for the teachers and students of the Faculty of Forestry in the biology disciplines focusing on dendrology, botany, and pedology, but also for the Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences and its Department of Landscape Planning and Design, Plant Protection and Landscape Floristry, etc. One of the most important tasks of the ABh is education. The main aim is an autochthonous dendroflora with a specific focus on the Slovak tree species which provides a wide dimension of study various biology disciplines (dendrology, botany, and pedology) for the students of the Faculty of Forestry. The ABH provides the study programme such as Landscape Planning and Design for the students of the Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences. The Students does not utilise only the tree species collection but also the collection of roses and interior seed and fruit collections. Furthermore, the ABH provides practical teaching in the subject of the morphology and tree species structure with the possibilities to observe processes of wood degradation in the model conditions for the students of the Faculty of Wood Sciences and Technology. The ABH is visited not only by the students of the Technical University in Zvolen but also the students of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica.
The pedagogical work of the ABH partially depends on the students′ Bachelor, Master and PhD theses. Thirty five PhD theses have been elaborated at the ABH focusing not only on monitoring and evaluating the variability of woody plants but also on ornithofauna, mycoflora, torrent control, and vegetation reinforcements. The pedagogical process is closely linked to scientific research. Apart from that, the Arboretum employees have already published thirty five research papers which have been used in the teaching processes. In addition, within the framework of other grant projects, the ABH collections and equipment are currently used by other teachers and researchers into different fields such as monitoring the physiological parameters of the pine needles or reproduction of precious deciduous trees.
Moreover, one of the primary objectives of the ABH research has been obtained some information directly from disabled people using a wheelchair. Their preferences and opinions have been related to the touristic and educational trails. Based on their preferences and opinions, the survey was distributed via the clients’ assistance of the National Rehabilitation Centre in Kováčová and the Alliance of Organisations of Disabled People in Slovakia. The research was implemented exclusively among the wheelchair users who spent their time in nature. For the results′ interpretation were used collected materials; graphical, comparative and statistical methods (Jakubisová, 2016).

Description: |
The project aim is to build the movable educational zone with interactive points in the Borova Hora Arboretum. The creation of the functional mobile application and administrative module includes the creation of the application skeleton, contents of particular parts using educational tablets, mobile tools, and transmitters-interactive points, located inside of the Arboretum. The content of the mobile application will be used for the current results of dendrochronology, fytocenology, and botany research, which will be implemented into the educational process of the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, in particular Forest Dendrology, Park and Landscape Dendrology, Fytocenology, Botany, Dendrology and Ecology of Tree Species, Landscape Vegetation Treatment. The didactic-pedagogical activity in the new intelligent educational zone will improve awareness of the Arboretum area. The creation of the application is established on regular and intensive using of the Arboretum by the broad spectrum of target visitor groups. |
